Chris and I will miss Virgil so much. I will always remember my time on staff at Westside and Virgil being there. One of my best memories of Virgil is every time he would come to the office and when he would leave he would say” well I am off like a herd of turtles!”. Our prayers are with you Judy and your family.

I'm so sorry if there were better words I'd say them I would like to say it will be better but that's a lie. Sadly you will always miss him, always be sad. I feel this for my dad I can't imagine how I'd feel if it were my husband. Like losing a lung very hard to live without. I wish there was something I could do. Something I could say to take away the pain. My thoughts and prayers are with you in this difficult time.

Virgil was a friend to my husband, Gordon and me, as well as our brother-in-law. We saw Virgil and Judy every several years when they drove through Albuquerque on their way to their service missions in Arizona, where Judy’s son, Nick lived. I visited them, as well, when they lived in Moline and I played there on tour with the Boston Pops-Esplanade Orchestra. We never failed to visit Whitey’s for ice cream on each visit, and to breakfast at another local spot. But the best visits we ever had were our riding RAGBRAI together in 2005 and 2006,  when we, all four of us, rode RAGBRAI, (Register’s Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa).  His daughter, Jen, joined us on the second ride. Judy and Virgil took turns driving their RV on the route, and riding. It meant we had an “indoor” place to sleep, and we spent a lot of time visiting, laughing, and riding bikes together. It was a friendship-establishing accomplishment to ride across Iowa, certainly it was for me, and because of it, Virgil later made his “trip of consequence,” when he did a solo long bike ride from his home to a distant location, with only his leg and wind power to keep him going. No place to sleep but a pup tent. It was in honor of his 60th (?) birthday… a really courageous effort. 
He and Judy did so much work for the church, both at home and on their RV MAPS journeys. So much to be proud of. Rest in Peace, Virgil and we hope to meet you again in heaven.

Uncle Virgil your passion for life and making memories will always hold a place in our hearts. Your stories about taking your girls to Walt Disney every year and the importance of prioritizing memories (and 'just take a wad of $20s and don't worry about it--you'll enjoy the vacation a lot more") was really good advice!
And of course, your passion for RV Maps demonstrated your work ethnic, long past retirement, and your desire to make a difference in practical and important ways.
Thanks for being yourself, saying things how you 'saw them", and living your values. We love you and will miss you.
