Virginia M. Evans

Funeral services and Mass of the Christian Burial for Virginia M. Evans, 83, of Davenport, formerly of Big Rock, IA will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 22, 2014 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Davenport. Burial will follow at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary in Davenport. Mrs. Evans died on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at her residence at the Senior Star retirement community in Davenport.Virginia Mavis McVey was born on December 9, 1931 in Vinton, IA, the daughter of Clair and Fern (Caldwell) McVey. Following her graduation from Marion High School she married her high school sweetheart, John H. Evans on June 9, 1950. He preceded her in death in July of 2010. Mrs. Evans was a housewife, homemaker, and most of all Mom. She loved spending time with her family and most especially her visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Davenport and a former member of St. James Catholic Church in Toronto, IA. In earlier years she enjoyed bowling and was a member of several women’s leagues.Surviving members of the family include – a Daughter: Karen (Roger) Spratt of Davenport; 2 Sons: John “J.C.” Evans Sr. and his special friend Barb, and James (Sandra) Evans all of Davenport; 10 Grandchildren, 19 Great grand-children, and several nieces, nephews,and God children.She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a sister: Leota Williams, and a brother: Jack McVey.Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or a favorite charity.The family wishes to express a special note of gratitude and thanks to the entire staff at Senior Star.
