Virginia M. Hughes

Virginia M. Hughes, 95, of Davenport, passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 11, 2016 in the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until service time at the mortuary. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Genesis Hospice. Virginia was born on October 8, 1920 in Thalmage, NE, the daughter of George and Luella (Meyer) Ott. Virginia Ott was united in marriage to Gail C. Hughes August 9, 1941 in Alexandria, LA. He preceded her in death in 1993. Virginia was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and one of the original mall walkers. She traveled to Florida with her husband every winter after he retired. She was an avid gardener and played a mean game of Euchre and Dominoes. Survivors include daughters, Pamela (Charles) Egert and Jan (Charles) Laing; sons, Hal Hughes and Jay (Pam) Hughes; eight grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and two great, great, grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sisters, Evelyn Plunket and Maxine Hill.
