

Memorial services for Virginia Morton, 95, of Bettendorf will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 1st at the Cunnick-Collins Mortuary chapel in Davenport. Family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Inurnment will be at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Mrs. Morton died Sunday, September 27, 2015 at the Iowa Masonic Home. Virginia was born on November 13, 1919 to E. H. and Mabel Mergy. In 1941, she married Robert Morton. They had 48 years of a strong, loving and joyous partnership until his death in 1989.Virginia was a graduate of Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, IA and retired from the Scott Co. Department of Social Services where she had worked for two decades. She provided volunteer leadership over many years to multiple organizations including the Girl Scouts, Black Hawk Hiking Club, and First Presbyterian Church of Davenport. Well into her eighties, Virginia independently traveled the world, hiked, bicycled, gardened, attended theatrical performances, and read voraciously. She is survived by three daughters: Judith (Donovan) Haxton of Laurel, Maryland, Jane Weede of Peoria, Illinois, and Lilah (Roy) Pengra of Buffalo Gap, South Dakota; five grandchildren: David, Daniel, Lilah, Ruth and Dean, twelve great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Davenport.
