He was born on December 18, 1942, in Ottumwa, Iowa. Allen built a distinguished career in sales and marketing, ultimately serving as President of the Quad Cities Division of Advantage Sales & Marketing. He was respected for his integrity, reliability, and steady leadership.
Supporting his children, Kimberly and John, was one of the great joys of his life. He loved coaching John’s Little League teams, helping Kimberly grow in her volleyball skills, and being a constant, involved presence. Years later, he found a deep and enduring love with Sandra, and together they shared 36 years marked by devotion, partnership, travel, and the home they created with intention. He especially loved tending their bountiful garden.
Allen was an attentive and joyful grandfather, and time with his grandchildren often brought out his best. In recent years, he renewed his faith, accepting Christ and being scripturally baptized in 2023, a milestone that brought him peace and courage.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra; his children, Kimberly Lanum (Jeff) and John Bowden (Lisa); grandchildren, Lauren, Blake, Tyler, Claire, and Annabelle; stepchildren, Kelli Otting (Marty), Terry Otting (Diana), Joe Otting (Monika), and Amy McConnell (Michael), along with their children Ian, Tristan, Olivia, Matt, Kylie, and Kaelyn; and his former wife, Connie, mother of Kimberly and John. He is also survived by his siblings, Elaine Brown (Ron), Susan Christenson (Larry), Mike (Donna), Brian (Karen), Patsy Bowden, Sharon MacDonald (Scott), Sheila Ross (Steve), and Mark (Bobbie); along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Patricia (Reed) Bowden; siblings, Lowell, Jay, and Colleen; and his aunt, Alicia “Mike”; and uncle, William Donald “Fan” McCracken.
