William (Bill) J. Greer

Funeral services for William (Bill) J. Greer, 77, of Davenport, will be 11:00 am on Friday at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary, Davenport. Burial will follow at the Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island, IL. Family will greet friends on Thursday from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Mortuary.William passed away on Saturday, January 19, 2012 at Genesis Medical Center – East Campus, Davenport.Cunnick-Collins Mortuary assisting family with arrangements.William James Greer was born on February 4, 1935 in Webb City, MO, and grew up in and around Miami, OK. He was the son of LeRoy and Irene (Pierce) Greer. He married Marie Cecere on October 5, 1958 in Brooklyn, NY. He worked at the Rock Island Arsenal as a programmer for 25 years. He retired in 2000. William served in the U.S. Army in the unit later to become Army Rangers from 1952-1961. In addition to always being "Marvelous" he was a giant University of Oklahoma Sooners fan that enjoyed fishing, cooking, spending time with his family, and was always working on a new computer program. He also was a person of great faith and a true student of "A Course In Miracles."Survivors include his wife Marie of Davenport, son; Joseph (Candy) Greer of Davenport, grandchildren; Catherine, William and Benjamin, all of Davenport, twin brother; Benjamin (Sue) Greer of Venice, FL, and half-brother; Dan Ray Petty of Enid, OK., and his puppy Koko.He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, LeRoy and sisters; Dorothy and Betty Greer.Memorials may be made to the family.Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.Cunnick-Collins.com.
