

Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held 1:00pm Saturday, February 15, 2025, at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Lost Nation, IA. Visitation will be 11:00am till mass at the church Saturday. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery Lost Nation, IA. Memorials may be made to the Wheatland or Lost Nation Volunteer Fire Departments. Sweet William (Bill) was born on January 29, 1948, in Davenport to William Sr and Lula (Lasack) Horstmann. Bill attended and graduated from Lost Nation in 1966. Bill worked hard on the family farm with his dad, William Sr. Farming was his passion. He raised cattle, pigs, and crops. You could always find him doing something on the farm. Bill was a part of many organizations. He was a part of the Clinton County Pork Producers. He served as director in 1993, treasurer in 1992 and 1993, president in 1990 and 1991, and vice president in 1989. He was also a part of the Clinton County Cattlemen’s Association, where he received the outstanding contributor reward. He was a part of the Iowa Lions Foundation, where he was awarded the Warren Coleman Honorary Award. Bill was also a former member of the Clarence Co-op Board.
Bill had been married to Donna Bouschlicher, they had two daughters. On the night of December 13, 1997, Sweet William met the love of his life, Sunny, at a friend’s birthday party. They were united in marriage on July 9, 2005, in Vanderveer Park in Davenport. Bill and Sunny enjoyed traveling together and they attended numerous dances.
He enjoyed spending time doing anything with his family. Bill loved the outdoors; he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a part of the best hunting group. Bill was well known for his love of turtle trapping as well. He was a skilled pool player; he played for the Desperados Pool Team. He loved to play cards. He would also never turn down the chance to have a good time and throw a party. Bill was a loving family man, a hard worker, and he was a kind and compassionate man of faith.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife, Sunny Horstmann, his daughters, Penny (Jeff) Vacek of Oxford Junction and Colleen (Aaron) Benhart of Lisbon; his stepchildren Ky (Julie) Soucinek of Bettendorf and Kelli (Joe) Akers of Davenport; his grandchildren Emma (Scott) Adams of Wheatland and Reece Vacek of Wheatland, his first great grandchild is expected to arrive in June 2025; step grandchildren Claire, Henry, and Liliah Akers of Davenport, Carter (Elena) Collins of Colorado, Mason Collins of Colorado; his sisters JoAnne Horstmann of Lost Nation and LuAnn Horstmann of Tennessee; and a special nephew, Will Horstmann of Utah and nieces Vicki Brenner of Cedar Rapids and Cheryl Eller of Arizona.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Scott; and a sister, Onalee.
