

Wilma J. Baxter, 88, of Davenport passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at the Clarissa Cook Hospice House Bettendorf. Funeral services will be 11:00AM Monday (3/7) at St. Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church Davenport. Burial will follow at the National Cemetery Rock Island, IL. Joyce was born May 16, 1922 in Savanna, IL to Joseph & Lucille (Moore) Helbing. She was united in marriage to Eldon Baxter on November 23, 1946 in Davenport, IA. Joyce served her country as an Executive Assistant at the Rock Island Arsenal Headquarters. She started the day after Pearl Harbor and retired in 1967. Joyce was very proud of her role in the making and delivering of the JFK commissioned Sword in 1968.
Joyce was a member of St. Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church where she was active in the Star Circle, serving communion, and United Church of America. She was also a member of the Davenport Moose Lodge.
Survivors include her husband Eldon Baxter, Davenport; a daughter Nancy (Donald) Barton, LeClaire, IA; Grandson Bradley Barton, St. Louis, MO; Great grandchildren Alex & Joe; A twin sister Jean Dauphin, Freeport, IL, nieces Patsy Baxter Rebal, and Kathy Schauer; and nephew Dave Dauphin.
