It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Beverly (Bev) Strate on December 5, 2025 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s. Bev was born in Spokane, WA on November 10, 1949 to Lumarion (Luby) and Lenore (Pete) Jurgensen. Her father relocated to Davenport when Bev was around 10. She attended Davenport High School, graduating in 1968. Bev loved being a Davenport Gorilla – she was chosen as Miss Davenport and was very active in the school. She met the love of her life, Greg, in high school and would end up marrying him in 1970 after six years of dating. Greg’s banking career saw them living in Kennewick, Davenport, Othello, and Moses Lake before finally settling in Spokane, where they have resided for forty-five years.
Bev was an extraordinarily talented woman. She created countless hand-crafted treasures over the years, from intricate Christmas dolls to hats and sweaters for her grandchildren. Christmas was her favorite time of year and gave her a chance to decorate her house with the boxes and boxes of decorations she had collected over the years. Her decorated house was a sight to behold and brought joy to everyone who visited. In the summer months Bev’s love of gardening also made her home a neighborhood favorite, with beautiful floral arrangements creating a yard that was admired by everyone who saw it.
As a wife, mother and grandmother she was second-to-none. She retired after 20 years from Whitworth University when her first grandchild was born so she could take care of him while his parents worked. Eventually, Bev was watching all five of her grandchildren during the week and loving every minute she got to spend with them.
Bev was preceded in death by her sister Sherry and her brother Gary. She is survived by her sister Vicki of Bellflower, CA, her husband Greg, and her sons Eric (Rachel), their children Noah and Hannah, and Adam (Cary), and their children AJ, Aiden, and Zac.
In accordance with the family’s wishes there will be no public service. In lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to honor Bev is asked to make a donation in her in her name to the Spokane Humane Society. We would also like to offer our deepest gratitude to the employees of Cornerstone Court for the exceptional care they provided Bev with. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.strate-funeral.com for the Strate family. STRATE FUNERAL HOME, DAVENPORT, WA is caring for the family.
