Burton Clark Finch, of Spokane, WA, passed away December 25, 2024 at the age of 90 to be with our Lord and Savior. Burt was born on April 5, 1934 in Spokane, WA to his parents Clair and Vera Finch. On May 20, 1955 Burt married Connie Ramsey of Wilbur, WA where they also called home and raised their family. Burt was a devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather. Burt loved his family and was very proud of children and all his grandchildren’s accomplishments and leaves a legacy of love to all the lives he touched.
During his early childhood years, Burt lived in Chewelah, WA and Rosaila, WA before his family settled in Wilbur when he was 13 years old. During his teen years he began working weekends on a local farm where he gained his knowledge of farming. In High school he played tennis and played drums in the Wilbur High School 50-member band winning many competitions throughout the county. After graduating High School, he continued working for local farmers and during the off seasons traveled throughout the United States with his close friends. This began his love for travel. He soon was employed with Washington State Department of Transportation out of Wilbur and eventually became Lead Tech. Burt was a gifted mechanic, and heavy equipment operator. One of his greatest endeavors with his crew was the widening of the Keller grade on Hwy 21. Burt also piloted Lake Roosevelt’s Keller Ferry, the Martha S.
Burt enjoyed many hobbies. He had a love for cars and planes and was an avid reader, especially of planes and history. He was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association at Felts Field airport in Spokane, WA. Burt enjoyed landscaping, snow skiing, boating, and water skiing. He also spent many years working part time at the Auto Body shop doing repairs, detailing, and painting vehicles. He was quick witted and a great story teller. Burt was famously known for his well witching abilities, which he did mostly by using maps and rods, dowsing over 750 wells both for private individuals and cities in Eastern Washington.
During his career he served on Central Washington Grain Growers Board, the Wilbur Cemetery Board, and was an active member of the Wilbur Lutheran Church. Burt also served as President on the Board at Rockwood Lane in Spokane. After his retirement he enjoyed driving the sport busses for the Wilbur/Creston School Dist. He loved getting to know the teams and coaches and going to their games.
Burt took over farming for his father-in-law in the mid 70’s and later retired from DOT. After retirement, he and Connie enjoyed traveling to more than 40 countries and later vacationed in Hawaii yearly. In 2011 they moved to Rockwood Lane Retirement Complex and recently to Touchmark, both in Spokane.
Burt is proceeded in death by both his parents, his brother Kenneth Finch, and his grandson Cody Robertson. He is survived by his wife Connie of 69 years, his daughter Toni Robertson and Tom of Wilbur, and his twin sons and their wives Mike and Beth Finch of Wilbur, and Mark and Denise Finch of Olympia, six grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
