Gary Holman of Spokane passed away peacefully on the evening of November 29th, he was 73. Gary was born in Odessa,Washington to Henry and Betty Holman. Gary grew up in Lamona, and attended school in Odessa where he graduated in 1967. After graduation, Gary attended Washington State College (University). After college, he returned to Lamona and worked on the family farm and ranch. Gary moved to Spokane in 1991 and worked at Royal Park Care Center until his retirement. He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Gary continued to live in Spokane until his passing.
Gary was an avid WSU Cougar fan. He was a charter member of the North Lamona Cougar Club, and would regularly attend home football, basketball and baseball games while living in Lamona. Very rarely would there be a game that was broadcasted where Gary wasn’t watching on TV, or listening to on the radio.
Gary was also an active outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing. Gary made many of his own clubs, especially putters, and had tags on the shaft with his name and, “I made it myself”. He took pleasure in golfing with friends while he was younger, and in his later years, passed on the love of the sport to his nephew with a set of clubs for Christmas.
Gary was a hobbyist. He built numerous model World War II airplanes, removing bristles on a paintbrush till there was one left to paint faces on the pilots. Gary also built model HO train sets with full scenery ranging from mountainsides to grassy plains and wheatfields. He also raced and built numerous slot cars and participated in a racing league while living in Spokane. Gary also built RC cars and designed and painted different bodies to go onto the cars.
He was a bachelor, but loved to spoil his niece and nephew. Very rarely would Gary visit them and not have some sort of gift. He would spend quality time with each of them playing with various toys that he would bring. These visits would often involve Gary sharing his hobbies with the two of them and teaching them about the things he enjoyed.
Gary is preceded into death by his parents, Henry and Betty, and his brother Craig. He is survived by his nephew Andrew (Randi) of Bozeman, his niece Stephanie (Kevin) of Anaheim, sister-in-law Ellen of Odessa, two great nephews, and two great nieces. A memorial service for Gary will be held at a later date. Internment has taken place. Strate Funeral Home of Davenport is caring for the family.
