Howard Warner Skolrud
November 14, 1933 – May 1, 2021
Howard Warner Skolrud went to be with his Lord on Saturday, May 1, 2021, in Moses Lake, Washington, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. He was born on November 14, 1933, to Herman and Julia (Holland) Skolrud in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. He was the middle of five children. He spent his childhood in Minnesota. He graduated from the Elementary Schools of Otter Tail County (8th grade) in 1948, and he completed the ninth grade at Pelican Rapids High School. Hemoved to Winlock with his family in 1952. He met Dorothy Josephine Snyder at a youth choir practice and they were married a few months later on July 15, 1955 in Chehalis, Washington. She predeceased him in August 2020. He is survived by his children: Rodney (Pam) Skolrud in Everett, WA; LaVonne (Dusty) Wells in Lavergne, TN; Sharon (Kim) Kruger in Davenport, WA; Tim (Julie) Skolrud in Zephyrhills, FL; Steve (Jill) Skolrud in Gilbert, AZ; Randy Skolrud in Everett, WA; and Kathy (Gary) Whiteside in Kelso, WA. Howard served in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1957, and then was transferred to the reserves until 1961. His service took him through the Panama Canal, to Point Barrow, Alaska, and to Okinawa, Japan. He was assigned to the Burton Island Ice Breaker spending time in both Arctic and Antarctic waters. Howard and Dorothy lived in Winlock, WA when their children were young. They were active in the Napavine Assembly of God church. From Winlock they moved to St. Helens, OR, where he was employed at the Thriftway which later became Red Apple Market. He retired from there in 1992. He served faithfully in the St. Helens Assembly of God church as church treasurer and a board member. After their children were raised, they moved back to Lewis County, WA and lived in Napavine about eighteen years. In 2016, he and Dorothy moved to Moses Lake, WA, to live with their granddaughter. Howard spent his last years in the Summer Wood Alzheimer’s Special Care Unit. In addition to his children, Howard is survived by his brothers: Clinton (Marietta) Skolrud and Dennis (Dianne) Skolrud; hisgrandchildren: Breeze (Patrick) Garrett, Ryan (Emily) Skolrud, Stephanie (Casey) Quinif, Kylie (Phil) Beman, Nick (Sarah) Kruger, Brian Coolidge, Justin Skolrud, Jordan (Angela) Skolrud, Kristi (Norrie) Ketcham, Brandon (Wendy) Kruger, Sharayah (Nick) Koch, Jaron Skolrud, Hilary (Ben) Paulus, Zachary Skolrud, Ashley Skolrud, Donovan Wells, Samuel Skolrud, Christian Wells, Joel Skolrud, Lucas Skolrud, Caleb Skolrud, and Abigail Skolrud; and his great-grandchildren: Nora Skolrud, Ilona Skolrud, Ronan Skolrud, Isaac Skolrud, Olivia Skolrud, Kingston Koch, Charlotte Koch, Elliana Quinif, Emilia Koch, Fallon Quinif, Warner Quinif, Joey Buell, Jake Hamilton, Riley Buell, Joslyn Buell, Corey Garrett, Madeline Kruger, Lavanna Garrett, Olivia Kruger, Hudson Kruger, Levi Garrett, David Kruger, Dominick Kruger, Brooklyn Sterley, Malia Sterley, Kinsley Sterley, Braxton Ketcham, Jazzlyn Skolrud, Wesley Beman, Xavrae Beman, Maxwell Beman, Sullivan Beman, Zyir Beman, Zumyrah Beman, and Noah Paulus. He was preceded in death by Dorothy Skolrud, his wife of 65 years, his parents Herman and Julia Skolrud, and his siblings, Milton Skolrud and Marian Demmer. Howard will be laid to rest in a private family interment at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery in Medical Lake, WA. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 2nd at 3:00 PM at Harvest Celebration Church in Davenport, WA. The service will be livestreamed on the Harvest Celebration Church’s YouTube channel and Facebook page.
