

Buddy Bryant (65) well known and respected neighbor to many in Creston, Washington passed away Friday morning, September 2, 2016 at Providence Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane, Washington. Buddy was born on October 2, 1950 into the Chattanooga, Tennessee home of Howard Vernon and Lila Ann Watson-Bryant. Following high school, seventeen-year-old Buddy enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on October 27, 1967. During his military service, Bryant served two tours of duty in Vietnam, earned the Rifle Marksman Badge, the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal prior to his honorable discharge on August 27, 1971. Ten months later on Friday, June 23, 1972 Buddy married Miss Ruth Nelson in Seattle, Washington. Buddy took great pride in his work as Maintenance Supervisor for the Creston School District. In honor of his thirty years of dedicated service, the school ball field was named “Bryant Park.” An active member of his community, Buddy attended Creston Christian Church, served as Crew Chief with the Creston Ambulance Service for seventeen years and retired from the Creston Volunteer Fire Department. Buddy’s favorite hobby was working. For many years he would take his vacation time to drive grain truck during harvest. Buddy did enjoy spending time working in his flower garden and yard, however his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren.
Preceded in death by both of his parents, Howard & Ann; his parents-in-law, Otis & Minnie Nelson; as well as two brothers, Dennis Bryant and Randy Bryant; and his devoted pug, Kody. Buddy lives on through his loving bride of 44 years, Ruth Bryant; children, Amy Harris (Sean) and Matthew Bryant (Kanya); grandchildren, Kaylee Ann Harris, Levi Harris, Keely Bryant and Bo Bryant; sister, Jeannie Bryant Lockley; brothers, Paul Bryant and Kelly Bryant; and sister-in-law, Wena Bryant as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
