Marjorie Fern (Calvin) Evans (87) was born March 12, 1933 in Meadow, South Dakota. She was born to George William Calvin and Lula Bell Reese Calvin. Marge’s family moved often following employment and family and later left South Dakota for Washington. She graduated from Grandview High School and went on to attend Central Washington State College (University) where she met Francis Delano “Lanny” Evans from Almira. They were married in Tacoma, Washington on October 11, 1952. To this marriage were born three children: Judy (David) Lindhag of Ford, Jana Evans of Newman Lake; and son Larry (Pamela) Evans of Arlington, WA. Five Grandchildren; Lani (Thom) Caraway of Spokane; Jennifer (Bryce) Mackin of Colbert; D.J. Lindhag of Spokane; Kandace (Jordon) Solvberg of Stanwood and Jensen (Cameron) Dockendorf, Arlington. Great-grandchildren; Emma and Sam Caraway; Makyla, Xander, and Daxton Lindhag of Spokane, Kiner and soon to be baby Solvberg (August 2021) of Stanwood, soon arriving baby Dockendorf (March 2021), Arlington; step-grandchildren Zachary Caraway of Spokane, Parker, Colin and Lucas Mackin of Colbert. Marjorie loved her entire family and it didn’t matter how you were related to her, she still loved and cared for all. Marjorie devoted her life to her husband and children especially during their growing up years. Later, she helped Lanny whenever needed with the many duties and responsibilities he had with the school, buses, church, bank, and city and then began her own career with the United States Postal Service until she retired in 2000. During her 24 years of dedicated service she won a number of top awards, held positions at the national level, and loved serving her family and friends within her community and surrounding farmlands. One of her favorite things to do was to weigh the newborn babies in her postal scale at the front of the office. She started as a part-time rural route carrier and retired as the full-time Post Master. Anyone who knew her loved Marge and vice versa. She never met a stranger and could go up to just about anyone and strike a conversation. Along with being gainfully employed, she was involved in many volunteer programs and associations over the years while she lived in Almira for this is just what you do when you live in a small town! You always help when and where needed and she loved doing this even after retirement while volunteering at the Senior Thrift Store for many years in Wilbur. She was a devoted member of her Almira Community Church where she continued to learn more about her Lord and Savior. She was blessed to travel to Thailand and to Africa on Mission Trips with her church family. In her spare time Marge enjoyed camping, waterskiing, bowling, playing bridge, gardening and of course her bible studies. Lanny and Marge celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on October, 11th, 2002. Marge felt blessed to be able to travel in her later years, which motivated and prepared her for her final journey to heaven. She was ready to go! Marge was preceded in death by her late husband Lanny Evans in 2012, parents, numerous brothers and sisters and extended family. Marjorie passed away on Wednesday, January 21st in Liberty Lake, WA from Alzheimer’s while living at Guardian Angel Homes. This place was absolutely wonderful to her and her family during her 3.5 year stay and took great care of her keeping her away from Covid the entire time and making sure she was well taken care of.
