September 14, 1954March 27, 2018

Celebration of Life for William John Lilje, 63, is scheduled for Friday, April 20 at 4 pm, at the Davenport Presbyterian Church. A reception will follow at the Davenport Middle School.

Bill spent the last 9 years of his life battling the effects of early onset Alzheimer’s. True to his positive spirit and attitude, Bill continued to live his life never allowing Alzheimer’s define him. He went home to be with our lord and savior on Tuesday March 27.

Bill was born September 14, 1954 in Spokane to Joe and Vi Lilje. He was the youngest member of the four siblings, Jim, Randy and Kathi. The family lived and grew up in Davenport Washington. Bill loved living in a small town. He truly enjoyed competition and playing football, basketball and baseball, which he excelled at sports at Davenport High School. He achieved Eagle Scout ranking and graduated in 1973. He studied one year at Eastern Washington and turned out for the basketball and baseball team. He transferred the next year to Washington State University and graduated in 1977 in Zoology and was a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. After living in several cities in 1984, he decided to move back to Davenport and pursue his passion to farming. In 1987, He married Michelle and they started their life together in Davenport. Their son Nolan was born in 1996 and was joined by Daughter Grace in 1999. He passed his passion for playing sports onto his children. He enjoyed coaching his kids and others in football, basketball and little league baseball. No rain was ever going to stop a game. He was a member of the Davenport Presbyterian Church and the Davenport Lions Club.

Bill had a wonderful smile and a great sense of humor. His family was very important to him both immediate and extended.

His wife Michelle, son Nolan, daughter Grace and parents Joe and Vi survive Bill. His siblings and spouses Jim (Diana), Randy (Robin), Kathi Kennedy (John) and nieces and nephews. Infant son Daniel precedes him in death.

Donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association online or at 910 W. 5th Ave, Ste. 256 Spokane, WA 99204

Bill had great people in his life. His family was comprised of strong hard working people. It made total sense to me when he went back to "home" to be the farmer. He needed hard work that required total commitment. He was a great team leader in his youth and I am sure he lived up to his expectations of himself. I am sad because of his passing - for his family, for his community, and for all of us. The few years that we shared in the classrooms and on the sports fields were very good years - because of the people in our lives. I am thankful that Bill was in my life. I needed his efforts to challenge my life. He set the bar for the boys who would become men. Rest in peace, Bill. You were a good and faithful servant.

We had the honor to be the Lilje's neighbors in our first house in Davenport. They were the best & allowed the kids to play lively ball games in there big back yard.Jim,Randy & little Bill were coaches, refs & sometimes peace makers. One time an errant hard ball hit a passing car(which WSP Trooper Jack McDonald occupied)----another lively discussion occurred. My deepest thoughts to the entire Lilje family on Bill's passing.

To Bill's family and friends, I am so sorry for your loss. Billie was my best friend in grade school, and I have such great memories of him and his parents/brothers. My only regret is that I never got to say hello and give him a hug as an adult, and say "thank you" for all the joy he gave me.

I can’t believe you’ve left us so soon but I am happy to hear you are no longer in pain. I regret that we didn’t stay in touch like we used to when you first moved back home from your time in Fresno California. I was looking at some old photos when we were so young and rembering the good times we had. You were always so kind to me and my family. Rest now and know that your time here on this earth was treasured by many.

I didn’t know you long before your illness was challenging you, but i knew enough to know the kind of man you were even through all of it. One only needs to know your influence on those around you to know what a good son, husband and dad you were. You will be missed but fondly remembered and your children will always know you are in a better place watching them and do you proud. God speed Bill- you are loved!
