Lydia Bayer Mueller, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully in her cherished homestead on September 4, 2023, surrounded by her family, at the age of 89. A formidable woman, she leaves behind a legacy of devotion, independence, resilience, and elegance. She bestowed strong spirituality and a persevering work ethic that is deeply valued by her family and friends.
Born on December 8, 1933, Lydia was the daughter of Gregor and Franziska Bayer. She was raised in Gambach Germany, studied cosmetic dermatology in Heidelberg, Germany and Paris, France, immigrated to the United States in 1958 and was honored to become a U.S. citizen in 2003. Later in life she was the proud co-owner of International Motors. Lydia was predeceased by the love of her life, her husband Hans Peter.
Lydia Bayer Mueller is survived by her loving children: Yvonne (Joseph) Zappulla, Nicolette (Marc) Eisen, Kurt (Jennifer) Schirm; and her grandchildren Alexa (Joseph) Dickson, Grant Zappulla, Hailey Eisen, Jason Eisen, Heidi Schirm, Henry Schirm, and Jack Schirm, who will forever remember her as a source of wisdom, strength, motivation, and love. Although she is no longer with us, her memory and all she taught us will live on in our hearts.
A memorial service to celebrate Lydia's life will be held at 1pm on October 14, 2023, at Lakemont Cemetery, 900 W. Central Avenue, Davidsonville, MD 21035. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Waterkeeper Alliance (https:waterkeeper.org/memorial/). Protecting nature was her passion.
