Walter William Patterson, 90, passed away July 1st of natural causes. A gentle soul with a brilliant mind, Walter's journey took him from his hometown of Winneconne, WI to Baltimore, and then Annapolis. With his wife of 66 years, the late Ann Louise Patterson (née, Rosenberg), they built a life filled with family, travel and learning. A longtime radar engineer with Westinghouse in Linthicum, MD, he received a patent for developing the first commercial aircraft wind shear detection system. Upon retirement, he was a docent for the U.S. Capitol, and the Library of Congress -- where he did extensive research into the life of Otto H.F. Vollbehr and the Gutenberg Bible.
Walter is survived by his three children, Nancy (John Michelli), Tom (Elizabeth), and John (Cathi Forbes), and beloved grandchildren Louis (Ady Pié), Wil and Samuel. Donations in his name can be made to Canine Companions at canine.org.
