

Edward, also affectionately known as Ed or Eddie, had strong family values. He was a passionate gardener who loved his fruit trees, music, dominoes, and helping others in need. He was an original founding member of the Maroons Cultural Domino Club and served from 1992 to 2015. His favorite pastime was fishing in the Florida Keys with family and friends. He will be remembered for his warm smile, genuine kindness, generosity, and the delicious meals he prepared.
Eddie married Judith Anne Young (nee McMorris) on July 6, 1974, in St. Andrew, Jamaica, and they had two children, Karen Maree Magnus (nee Young) and Daniel Scott Young. He attended Cornwall College in Montego Bay, Jamaica. He graduated from the College of Arts, Science and Technology (CAST) in Kingston, Jamaica, with a Junior degree. He also graduated from the University of the West Indies (UWI) in Trinidad with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and earned several professional certificates and licenses throughout his career.
Eddie is preceded in death by his parents, Gregg and Daisy Young (nee Chin), and his sister, Carmel (Henry) Chin (nee Young). He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Judith, daughter Karen (Christopher), son Daniel, sisters Gloria, Ingrid (Joe), and Eileen, brother Michael (Cate), 11 nieces and nephews, 14 grandnieces and grandnephews, and many cherished family and friends.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held at 10 am on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at Fred Hunter’s Funeral Home, 2401 S University Dr., Davie, FL 33324. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, the American Cancer Society, or the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America in honor of Edward Basil Young.
Eddie’s family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the hospital and hospice care doctors, nurses, and the rest of his healthcare team for caring for him and supporting the family.
