Ellen Kissane returned home on October 20, 2025. Her passing leaves a huge void in the lives of the many family members and friends who loved her dearly. It is with hearts that ache that we pay tribute to this remarkable woman of kindness and grace. Ellen was that rare person who lived her faith through action every day. It was this gift that allowed her to touch the hearts of so many. She was born in Brooklyn N.Y. and raised in an Irish Catholic family where values that matter were instilled at an early age. She was a loving wife who remained devoted to her husband William F. Kissane until his passing in 1997. Ellen raised with love 5 children Barbara (Gabriel), William (deceased) (Lisa), Joseph (Revonda), Daniel (Melanie) and Gene (Andreina). She also considered our dear family friend Robert Johnstone as her fifth son. She taught us all to cherish family, seek God and to reach out to those in need. Ellen demonstrated, by example, the value of hard work and self-reliance. She handled adversity with quiet determination, strength and elegance. She always did more than expected and was not fond of excuse-makers or quitters. Ellen found immense joy in her 20 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. She worked hard her entire life, both inside and outside of the home. Ellen was the Executive Assistant to the University of Miami head football coach for many years. She had the fondest memories of working for Coach Howard Schnellenberger and of the UM boys to whom she was a second mother. For several years, after she “retired, she was a valuable member of the medical practice of her son-in-law Gabriel and daughter Barbara. All that loved her (including her adoring dogs) relied upon her quick and welcoming smile and kind and encouraging words. The door to her heart and home were always open and those who entered found rest and comfort. Ellen leaves behind treasured friends who will miss the warmth of a good and loyal companion. She will forever remain imprinted on our hearts to remind us that, with humility, everything is possible when you trust in God and put others first. It is with hearts filled with both grief and gratitude that we send this, our greatest gift, into the arms of her loving Savior.
