Fred was a skilled and hardworking professional who built an impressive career as a pile driver by trade, a licensed crane operator, and ultimately a general superintendent with Berkel and Company. He was deeply committed to his work and took pride in mentoring the next generation of workers. Fred often reflected on the wisdom of the "old timers" who taught him his craft, humbly acknowledging their influence on his success. His dedication to excellence and his willingness to share his knowledge left an indelible mark on those he worked with.
Beyond his professional achievements, Fred was a true outdoorsman and embodied the spirit of adventure. Known affectionately as "the original Florida man," he spent much of his life exploring the natural beauty of his home state. From fishing in canals and the ocean to hunting, hiking, and airboating through the Everglades, Fred found joy in every corner of Florida’s wilderness. He especially cherished time spent on the Florida flats fishing or navigating the Everglades on his airboat. His love for nature was infectious and inspired those around him to appreciate the world’s wonders.
Fred's vibrant personality made him unforgettable to everyone he met. Though he was modest about being in the spotlight, he had an undeniable presence that lit up every room he entered. He never met a stranger and had a gift for connecting with people from all walks of life. His warmth and genuine interest in others left lasting impressions on countless lives.
Fred is survived by his loving wife, Melissa Anne Plumley; his mother, Carole Harwood; his sister, Lindsay Plumley; and his bonus daughter, Rhea Brianna Franklin. He was predeceased by his father, Fredrick William Plumley.
Fred’s passing leaves an immense void in the hearts of those who knew him. His legacy as a devoted husband, son, brother, mentor, outdoorsman, and friend will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to share in his journey.
May Fred’s memory bring comfort to those who loved him as they honor a life well-lived and deeply cherished.
