John Arthur Lynch Sr., a cherished patriarch, departed this world on August 29, 2025, at the age of 84, surrounded by his loving family in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Born on February 18, 1941, in Valley Stream, New York, John's early years were shaped by the traditions of family and faith that would later define his life. He leaves behind a legacy of unwavering love and dedication to his family and an admirable record of professional achievements.
John's journey through life was marked by a relentless spirit and an inexhaustible passion for sports. A quote from an article written about him when he worked at The Diplomat Hotel perfectly encapsulates his ethos: "My family and sports. All sports. Any sports." His devotion to his beloved teams — The Miami Dolphins, The University of Miami Hurricanes, the Florida Panthers, and the many sports he played and followed — was a testament to his zest for life and competition.
A proud veteran, John served his country in the United States Navy, a formative experience that left him with a deep sense of duty. After his military service, John's professional life was marked by impressive contributions, notably his role in supervising the construction of the Polynesian Hotel during Disney World’s grand opening in Orlando, Florida. He had a storied career that saw him managing luggage as a Baggage Superintendent at The Diplomat Hotel and later, as a business owner of Claudio’s Bakery. His decision to become an industrious City Manager for Nth Degree marked the culmination of his professional endeavors before retirement.
Education was important to John; he proudly held a High School Diploma from Valley Stream Central High School. This early foundation set him on a path of lifelong learning and instilled in him an enduring work ethic.
John is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Sonia Lynch, and his children: Thomas William Lynch, John Arthur Lynch, Jr., and Robert Hazen. He was also blessed with the love and support of his daughters-in-law, Sandra Lynch and Kimberly Lynch. He leaves behind a cherished legacy through his grandchildren: Alexa Lynch, Brittany Lynch Pruitt, Brian Lynch, John Lynch, Kristen Lynch, Megan Hazen Drake, Chad Hazen and Robert Hazen. His memory will also live on through his great-grandchildren: Monaco Pruitt, Milan Pruitt, Aiden Alonso, Conner Drake, Owen Drake and Dawson Drake.
John was predeceased by his father, Thomas William Lynch, Sr.; his mother, Julia Brady; his brother, Thomas William Lynch, Jr.; his sister, Anne Lynch Taylor; his son, Norman Hazen; and his grandsons, Brian Hazen and Shawn Hazen.
John's profound Catholic faith was a cornerstone of his life; he watched Mass every morning on TV and treasured the days he could attend Mass at Saint David's Catholic Church. He embodied the quote by Saint Augustine, "Faith is to believe what you do not see; the reward of this faith is to see what you believe," living a life that reflected his firm belief in the tenets of his faith.
John was the epitome of loving, kind, and faith-filled — words that barely scratch the surface of a man whose presence could light up a room and whose absence now leaves a palpable void. He was a man who saw the best in everyone and everything, and his love and passion will be greatly missed.
John Arthur Lynch Sr.'s story is one of enduring love, unwavering faith, and a commitment to family. His life serves as a beacon of what it means to live with purpose and passion. As we bid farewell, we take comfort in knowing that his spirit lives on in the memories he created and the lives he touched.
