Marguerite J. "Meg" Tobin lived a life full of energy, charm, compassion, and deep connection. On October 9th of 2026, she passed away peacefully at the age of 90, surrounded by the family she loved so dearly. She was truly an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all who knew her. The memories she created and the bonds she nurtured will remain a lasting gift to her family for generations to come.
Meg’s journey began on September 27, 1936, in Chicago, Illinois, born to Herbert and Margaret Swanson. From her early days as one of 4 sisters, as a popular cheerleader and majorette at St. Gregory's High School, she brought a bright, magnetic energy to everything she did. After earning her associate’s degree from DePaul University, she took to the skies as an Eastern Airlines stewardess, traveling the country with the grace, poise, and a type of warmth that would become her trademark until she married. She worked as a secretary and eventually poured her sharp mind and social talents into a thriving, 20-year career as a Real Estate Agent. Whether working as a secretary, building a successful career as a real estate agent, or simply gathering with friends and family, Meg brought intelligence, style, humor, and an unmistakable spark to everything she did.
Quick-witted, outgoing, and endlessly charismatic, Meg never met a stranger. She had a remarkable ability to make people feel welcome, valued, and loved, turning acquaintances into lifelong friends. Her laughter was contagious, her stories unforgettable, and her loyalty unwavering. She possessed a rare combination of strength and elegance, and those fortunate enough to know her were drawn to her generous heart and vibrant spirit.
She raised three daughters with her first husband, Gregory Devereaux, and shared 20 beautiful years of marriage with Hugh “Toby” Tobin.
Meg is preceded in death by her husbands, Gregory and Toby; her parents; her daughter, Michelle; her great-grandson, Lucas; and her sisters, Shirley, Carol, and Judy.
She leaves behind a family who will forever miss her fun-loving spirit: her daughters, Mary (Virgil) and Dawn (Kevin); her grandchildren, Ashley, Alysha, Joshua, and Lucy; and her great-grandchildren, Dominic, Michael, Tristan, and Zane.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate her life. A Visitation will take place Tuesday, October 20th, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Fred Hunter Funeral Home (2401 S. University Drive, Davie). A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 21st, at 11:00 a.m. at the Nativity Catholic Church (5220 Johnson Street, Hollywood) followed by the interment at the Fred Hunter Cemetery (6281 Taft Street, Hollywood) where Meg will be laid to rest surrounded by friends and family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
