

Maria, affectionately known as Rosie by her family and friends, was born on May 24, 1948, in Laredo, Texas, to Daniel and Rosa Hernandez. She grew up in San Antonio, where she attended South San Antonio High School and later began her professional journey as a clerk typist. Through dedication and perseverance, she advanced to serve as a Supervisory Equal Employment Opportunity Specialist for the Federal Government.
While working in Okinawa, Japan, Rosie volunteered with the EEO Commission and was honored with awards recognizing her commitment to advocacy and community service. After retiring, she remained active in service as a proud member of the Lions Club, where she contributed to fundraising and outreach efforts in Pembroke Pines, Florida.
Rosie was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Rosa; her husband, Donald Flippo; and her siblings, Carlotta Meza, Carmen Cardenas, Cecilia Barrera, Carlos Hernandez, David Hernandez, and Dolores Barragan.
She is survived by her children: Antonio Sanchez and his wife, Brenda; Ricardo Sanchez and his wife, Yesenia; Daniel Sanchez and his wife, Suzi; Laurie Holtzclaw and her husband, Steve; and Lissette Simpson and her husband, Josh. She also leaves behind her brother, Daniel Hernandez; her sister, Janie Ballesteros; her cherished grandchildren: Brittany Sanchez, Tyler Sanchez, Andrea Sanchez, Jessica Sanchez, Jasmine Sanchez, Ruby Sanchez, Yvette Sanchez, James Luna, McKenzie Luna, Zachary Barragan, Daniel Holtzclaw, and Maria Holtzclaw; her great-grandchildren: Nathan Bravo, Bryanna Bravo, Roman Sanchez, and Amaya Sanchez; and her great-great-granddaughter, Adelina Bravo.
A memorial service to celebrate Rosie’s life will be held on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. at Fred Hunter Funeral Home in Davie, FL.
The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Priyanka Gosain, Dr. Karen Prida, VITAS Healthcare, and her dear friends, Fabiola Ahmed and Josephine Marino, for the care, support, and kindness shown to Rosie and her loved ones.
