With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Michael. His absence leaves an immeasurable void, but the love he gave so freely will remain with all who knew him.
To know him was to feel welcomed. He had a remarkable gift for making every person he met feel important, seen, and valued. He listened without judgment, loved without conditions, and offered the kind of comfort that could be felt in one of his unforgettable hugs. If you were fortunate enough to receive one, you knew it carried warmth, strength, and reassurance unlike any other.
He was a father not only to his own children but to so many others who found guidance, acceptance, and encouragement in him. He never hesitated to open his heart, share his wisdom, or remind someone they mattered. His kindness extended far beyond his family, touching countless lives in ways both big and small. To many, he was simply "Daddy G,” a steady presence, a trusted friend, and a safe place to turn.
Handsome, humble, and genuinely down to earth, he found joy in life's simple pleasures. Whether he was out on the golf course enjoying a beautiful day, lining up the perfect shot at the pool table, or spending quiet time with the people he loved most around the kitchen table, he appreciated every moment. He never needed extravagance to be happy—his greatest treasures were the relationships he built and the memories he created.
He loved his wife Linda and together they built a life filled with laughter, strength, and unconditional love.
As a grandfather, he delighted in making memories, sharing stories, and offering the same warm hugs that became his signature. As a brother, he was loyal, dependable, and always ready with a smile or helping hand. As an uncle, he was a source of encouragement, laughter, and unconditional love, creating special bonds with his nieces and nephews that they will carry with them forever. As a friend, he had an extraordinary way of making everyone feel like family.
His legacy will not be measured by material possessions but by the countless hearts he touched. He taught those around him the value of kindness, humility, compassion, and loving people exactly as they are. He showed us that the richest life is one filled with love, laughter, and the simple joys of being together.
Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that his love lives on in every embrace, every shared story, every round of golf, every game of pool, and every act of kindness inspired by his example.
He is survived by his loving wife Linda, his children Michael (Carolann) and James (Eileen), Daughter in law (Debbie), his grandchildren Christopher (Tara), David (Abigail), Riley, Kaylee, Kyle, Daniel, Great grandboys Tyler, Jaxson, and Gabriel, sisters Loretta Borkowski and Maryanne DeGregorio (Matty), sisters-in-law Susan Taylor (Tom) and Shelly Gilbert (Steve), brother-in-law Robert Kenley (Norma), many loving nieces and nephews, extended family, friends and loved ones who were blessed to know him. He was preceded in death by his parents Michael and Anna Gurr, by his loving son Larry Gurr and brother-in-law Tony Borkowski. While we will miss his smile, his wisdom, and those incredible hugs, we will carry his spirit with us always.
Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Judes Hospital.
