Rich Gilberto, a beloved son, brother, and uncle, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2025, in Plantation, Florida. Born on March 24, 1967, in Cleveland, Ohio, Rich led a fulfilling life marked by kindness, friendship, and love. He exuded warmth and had the innate ability to make everyone around him feel cherished and valued.
Rich spent his childhood years in Cleveland where he was raised by his devoted mother, Sandra Pataki, and grew alongside his sister, Tracy Gilberto, to whom he was a lifelong friend and confidant. The sense of close-knit camaraderie in their family extended to the many aunts, uncles, and cousins who formed an integral part of Rich's life, offering support and shared joy across the years.
With a steadfast work ethic, Rich dedicated over 35 years of service to the City of Plantation as a Water Plant Operator. His dedication to his work was matched only by the respect and affection he garnered from his colleagues and those in the broader community with whom he worked tirelessly.
Rich's passions colored his life with vibrancy and excitement. He was a skilled hunter and fisherman, relishing quiet mornings out on the water and the camaraderie of fellow enthusiasts. His love for the outdoors was paralleled by his love for the open road as he loved his motorcycle, exploring and making memories.
History was another of Rich's interests, particularly as a member of the Second Florida Cavalry Company E and Dismounted. His participation in reenactments was a testament to his love for history as well as his desire to connect with others who shared his enthusiasm.
Rich is survived by his mother, Sandra Pataki, his sister, Tracy Gilberto and wife Tammy Osborne, and his nephews, Jacob and Jagger, whom he loved dearly. Each family member, in turn, reflected a part of Rich's kind and loving spirit.
Kind, friendly, and loving — these are the words that encapsulate the essence of Rich Gilberto. He made a lasting impact on everyone who was fortunate enough to cross his path. As we remember Rich, we celebrate his life and the immeasurable joy he brought into our world. His gentle spirit and loving heart will be dearly missed, yet his legacy of kindness will continue to inspire all who knew him.
The family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) in memory of Rich Gilberto. Your generous gift will make a lasting difference in the lives of injured veterans, their families, and caregivers.
