Shirley Jean Schleicher

Shirley was born in Detroit, Michigan to Robert and Helen Clark on September 9, 1934. She grew up in Michigan where she married her former husband, Charles Schleicher. They moved to Plantation, Florida in 1969 with their three boys - Kevin, Keith, Kirk - the center of her universe. She worked various jobs to help support the family including as secretary at a large advertising agency, a flower shop, retail sales, waitressing and lastly as a Scholarship Advisor in the Student Financial Services Department of Boward Community College for over 15 years until she retired in 1998.

She had a wide range of hobbies and interests, including ceramics, cross-stitching, line dancing, antiquing and traveling. She was a lover of all things Scottish given the heritage of her mother and father along with aunts and uncles. She traveled there many times to keep in touch with extended family and remind herself of her roots. But most of all she loved nothing more than being with her family, near and far, and her friends in Pine Island Ridge.

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Helen Clark and son, Kevin Schleicher. She is survived by her sister Edith Harder of Upstate New York, her sons Keith Schleicher (his wife Lori) of Durham, North Carolina and Kirk Schleicher of Richland, Georgia; grandchildren Kayla, Rachel and Robert; nieces and nephews Ethel, Sara, Worth, Vivian and David.

The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. John Foster for his compassionate care of Shirley over these last few years; Elizabeth and Sophie for the constant love and care they gave to her and allowing her to pass peacefully in her own home; their church fellowship at Faith and Love Empowerment Center who welcomed Shirley into their fold and her community of friends in Pine Island Ridge who were constantly by her side.
