ORICK, Abner J., age 79, passed away Thursday, October 18, 2018 at Kindred Hospital in Dayton. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Ethel and James Orick; sisters, Alice (Richard) Rhodes, Francine (Brad) Miller. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Judy (Jones) Orick; sons, Greg Orick, Mark (Stacey) Orick; sister, Doris (Don) Grey; aunt, Sylvia Warren; brother-in-law, Doug (Susan) Jones; grandchildren, Nathen, Peyton, Addison, Juliet and James; nieces and nephews, Richard, Mike, Lisa, Nancy, Matt, Laura and Rebecca. Abner was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in Germany. He loved The City of Dayton, especially The Belmont neighborhood where he established A-1 Trophy in 1964. He served as a Dayton City Commissioner for many years and was Director of Board of Elections. Abner was a member of numerous boards and committees. He was a founder of the Belmont Business Association and was a member of Alpha Lodge # 729 F + AM. Abner was a lifetime member of VFW Post 2800. He was also an inductee of the Softball Hall of Fame. Abner loved his family and delighted in his grandchildren. A Funeral Service will be held 1pm Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at Belmont United Methodist Church with Pastor Randy Coleman officiating. A visitation will take place Monday, October 29 at Belmont United Methodist Church 2701 S. Smithville Rd. Dayton, Ohio from 2pm until 8pm, a Masonic Service will be held at 8pm. Interment Woodland cemetery following the funeral. Services in care of Tobias Funeral Home Belmont Chapel.
