MCELLIGOTT, Armonde Elizabeth Correll, age 83, of Oakwood, Ohio, died peacefully at her home on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, in the care of family and her hospice support. Armonde was born October 26, 1942, to Mary Elizabeth Malone and Hugh Blake Correll. Her early years were spent in Canton, Ohio, until her family moved to Fort Smith, Arkansas. The eldest of five daughters, she returned to Ohio and lived with her wonderful Aunt Armonde and Uncle Jim Finke’s family before moving onto the University of Dayton campus to become an RA at Marycrest Hall. The highlights of her time at UD were in 1963 when she was crowned the Homecoming Queen, earned a teaching degree, and met the love of her life, Chuck McElligott, while taking a drawing class at the Art Institute of Dayton. She began her teaching career at Meadowdale High School in Dayton and later settled in Oakwood, as she and Chuck began their family, her true pride and joy. Always a lover of books and language, she found her way back to the classroom at Bishop Leibold School, where she influenced the lives and improved the grammar of hundreds of middle school students. She maintained lifelong friendships through teaching and her dear book club, along with developing new ones over the years through her favorite activities: water exercise at the "Y”, meditation classes, and visiting with her beloved neighbors. She was a prolific correspondent and loved sending letters and greeting cards for every occasion. Her very favorite thing, though, was spoiling her family, especially her 10 grandchildren, at Christmastime, thoughtfully choosing the perfect gifts and wrapping each one with such beauty and care that the paper, ribbon, and bows felt like gifts themselves. She is survived by her children, Betsy (Jason) Moore of Columbus, OH, Mary Crowe (Patrick Hindson) of Dayton, OH, and Charlie (Casey) McElligott of Chatham, NJ. She is also survived by her sisters Casey (Michael) Grenier, Peggy Mauras, Joan Williams, and Ginny (Craig) Sutton, and 10 grandchildren: Armonde (Carson) Bailey, Hall, Rawlins, and Mac Moore; Thad, Jaeden, and Solomon Crowe; and Hawk, Tillman, and Silver McElligott. Friends and family may visit from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2026, with a eulogistic celebration of Armonde's life beginning at 5:00 p.m. at Tobias Funeral Home – Far Hills Chapel, 5471 Far Hills Ave., Dayton, Ohio 45429. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to Ohio's Hospice https://www.ohioshospice.org/
