Avenelle S. Blackburn-104. Died August 8, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was born Feb. 22, 1922 the daughter of the late Mauda (Conley) and Culton Slone. Avenelle was also preceded in death by her husband Charles Blackburn, her grandson, Jeffrey Ziegler, brothers: Leon, Demra, Bayliss, Clinard, Merle and sister Anita Berry.
Avenelle is survived by her daughter, Rita (Bill) Ziegler, Great grandchildren, Cameron Charles and Mackenzie Marie Ziegler, and their mother Lisa Hole. She is also survived by a brother Vernon (Thelma) Slone, sisters-in-law Bertha, Peggy and Bev Blackburn, Becky and Kathryn Slone. Avenelle taught in the Beavercreek school system for many years before her retirement in 1980. She especially loved teaching children how to read. Avenelle had many nieces and nephews whom she cherished and enjoyed their visits.
Funeral services will be held at 12 PM on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at the Tobias Funeral Home - Beavercreek Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10 AM - 12 PM on Saturday, August 15. Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family.
