Barb was a selfless, loving wife, mother, and memaw to her beloved grandchildren. She had an immense love for holidays and took great joy in hosting her family for Christmas. She loved to see the smiles on everyone’s faces during family gatherings and had an infectious laugh that could fill any room. She graduated from Bowling Green State University and went on to a 37-year teaching career at Tecumseh Elementary School in Xenia. Her family lovingly referred to her as a “forever educator” as she continued to teach and inspire everyone she met through the years. She will be remembered for her kindness, her dedication to teaching so many children over her long career, and the tremendous love she had for her family.
She is proceeded in death by her first husband Randy Young, parents Virgil and Kathleen Cochran, stepmother Margaret Cochran, grandson Joey Dimmerling, sister-in-law Paula Young, and brothers-in-law Bill Frey and Jim Young. She is survived by her husband of 28 years Robert Frey; children Karen (Ron) Dimmerling, Kim (Matt) Kittle, David (Jennifer) Frey, Michael Frey; grandchildren Laila, Annie, Rosa, Evie, Connor, Ollie, Logan, Ben; brother Dave Cochran; sisters-in-law Patty (Larry) Simmons, Karen Young, Carol Treadway; brothers-in-law Tom Frey, Gary Young; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm, Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at the Tobias Funeral Home – Beavercreek Chapel. Interment will follow at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11am – 1pm, Tuesday, September 1. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Pelotonia to support cancer research at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC – James).
