McHUGH, Barbara J., age 77 of Beavercreek passed away on Thurs., Sept.19, 2013. Preceded in death by her parents, Harry J. and Mary Elizabeth Brown. Survived by her husband of 54 years, Thomas B. McHugh; children, Catherine M. (Jeff) Gross, Thomas B. (Cathy) McHugh Jr., Maureen A. (Craig) Moore, Kevin M. (Julie) McHugh, Colleen E. (Kevin) McGovern; brothers, Forst E. (Joan) Brown, Harry J. (Ilse) Brown Jr., Robert L. (Dianne) Brown, Richard P. Brown; 20 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Born in Louisville, KY, Barbara graduated from St. Joseph’s Infirmary School of Nursing after which she joined the Air Force and began her career as a 2nd Lieutenant at Maxwell AFB, AL. In 1992, she received a Bachelor of Science degree from St. Joseph’s College in Standish, ME. While her life was devoted to raising her children, Barbara’s nursing career included pediatric ICU in Louisville, KY, and later as director of nursing at Heartland of Beavercreek and Hospitality Homes in Xenia, OH where she helped open an Alzheimer’s Unit. She was a member of the WPAFB Officers’ Spouses’ Club and volunteered on Tuesdays as day chair at the WPAFB Thrift Shop where she made many lifelong friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am, Sat, Sept 28, 2013 at St. Luke Catholic Church, 1440 N. Fairfield Rd, Beavercreek, OH. Fr. Terry Schneider celebrant. Interment at Calvary Cemetery will follow. The family will receive friends at TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME – BEAVERCREEK CHAPEL, 3970 Dayton-Xenia Rd. from 4pm – 8pm on Fri, Sept 27, 2013. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Miami Valley Down Syndrome Association. Condolences may be expressed at www.tobiasfuneralhome.com.
