

Barbara Louise Varine, age 78, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Born on May 13, 1947, Barb lived a life filled with warmth, devotion, and a steady loving spirit that touched everyone blessed to know her. Barb was preceded in death by her father Albert Helmer, her mother Elizabeth Lingg, her beloved daughter Kelly Rayney, and the love of her life Vernon “Ted” Rayney with whom she shared many years of partnership, laughter, and unwavering devotion.
Barb is survived by her sisters Jeanne Hughes and Patty Kasse, stepsisters Cindy Moore and Pam Daniels, stepbrother Don Lingg, cousins Chuck Akerland, Judy Dee, Rosie Helmer, and Peggy Anderson. Children Mark (Janine) Rayney, Judi Absher, and Bill Rayney, along with various blended family members whom Barb embraced wholeheartedly. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Chelsea (Mark) Halter, Nick (Taylor) Absher, Garrett (Kayla) Rayney, Gage Rayney, Gabrielle Rayney, and Gavin Rayney. Her legacy continues through her great grandchildren: Baker and Noah Rayney, Parker and Peyton Absher, and Sydney Halter, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A retired AAA employee, Barb was known for her strong work ethic, kindness, and dedication. After retirement, she poured her heart into the things she loved the most. Traveling across country, enjoying memorable cruises, cheering on her grandchildren from the sidelines of sporting events, and knitting heartfelt pieces for those that she loved.
Barb will be remembered for her generosity, her gentle heart, her uncanny conversations, and the deep abiding love she held for her family and friends. Her presence brought comfort, her laughter brought joy, and her absence leaves a space that can never be filled.
A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held on December 12, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Tobias Funeral Home - Beavercreek Chapel, located at 3970 Dayton Xenia Rd, Beavercreek, Ohio, 45432. Following the visitation, a Celebration of Life Service will take place at the same venue, from 5:00 – 6:00 PM.
