

DREW, Basil, Dixon passed away at the Hospice of Dayton, Thursday, September 4, 2014. Basil was raised in southern Ohio by his parents the late Roy and Cecile Drew. He was a "child wonder" playing self-taught trumpet that was a gift from a neighbor of a foreclosed farm. He was a lifelong resident of Dayton, who played many musical venues, including twenty plus years at Suttmiller's. Basil is well remembered by his students for his 59 years as a music teacher at Hauer Music Company; and was also a United States Army veteran of WWII. Basil is survived by his children: Basil Lee Drew of Puako, HI., Tina Drew Derickson of Atlanta, GA.; mothers' of his children: Wanda Schick and Alma Drew; grandchildren: Scott, Nikki, James Basil, and Courtney; sister Charolette Mitchell of Dayton, and family friend and care giver Sadie Morrison. Family will receive friends Sunday, September 7, 2014 from 2:00PM to 5:00PM at the TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME-Far Hills Chapel; where service will be 10:00AM Monday.
