Bernard Anthony Ostendorf

OSTENDORF, Bernard “Benny” A., age 81, of Dayton, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Saturday, August 18th, 2018. Benny was born on November 23rd, 1936 in Dayton, OH to the late August and Antoinette Weiskamp Ostendorf. He was also preceded in death by his son, Daniel “Dan” Ostendorf and brother, Joseph Ostendorf. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Janet “Jan” Ostendorf; daughters, Christina Ostendorf and Kimberly Jordan; loving family dog Boots; two grandchildren, Kassidi and Austin Jordan; and sister, Mary (Jerry) Moore, many nieces, nephews, a large and wonderful extended family and many good friends. Benny was a proud graduate of Chaminade High School and the University of Dayton. He was a faithful member of St. Charles Parish. He retired from the Dayton Walther Corporation after 41 ½ years working in finance and accounting. Benny was an avid lover of many sports, especially tennis which he passionately played as often as possible. He was a member of the Five Seasons Sports Club where everyone knew his name. Most days Benny would be found outside tending to his yard, constantly followed by Boots, who was always wanting her tummy rubbed. He was a loyal fan of the Cincinnati Reds and enjoyed annually attending the ATP tennis tournament in Cincinnati. Wherever there was a festival, Benny could be found mixing it up with friends. His most abiding characteristic was his unique laugh which could be recognized even among a large, boisterous crowd; indeed, it was often said, “I hear Benny.” Benny was a wonderful Christian man who unfailingly practiced “love your neighbor as yourself.” He was a man of rare integrity. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Family and friends and all that knew him will cherish his memory and miss his incredible personality.
