Betty Hauwiller, a woman of quiet strength, enduring compassion, and remarkable spirit, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2026, at the age of 94. Her long life was marked by service to others, a love of her church family (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints), a love of community, and a warmth that touched everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Betty was the devoted wife of Larry Hauwiller, her husband for over 60 years. Larry preceded her in death in 2022, and it is a comfort to know that they are reunited.
For the past eight years, Betty made her home at Brookdale Kettering Independent Living, where she became a cherished member of the community. Her competitive spirit shone brightly at trivia gatherings, and her dedication to her exercise partners kept her active and engaged well into her nineties. She treasured the friendships she formed there, and her fellow residents will remember her laughter, her smile, and her positive attitude.
Betty is survived by her three sons and their partners: John and his partner Suzan; Jim and his wife Rita; and Paul and his wife Julie. She leaves behind a family who adored her, and a legacy of care, courage, and kindness that will live on in each of them.
Betty is also survived by three grandchildren: River, Sarah, and Arcadia. Their cherished experiences with Betty ranged from childhood parks in Chicago to the fire ant hills of Arkansas, down to the final game of Scrabble. Every garage sale they hold will carry her memory, honoring years of delighted early morning browsing and stacks of collected treasure. We will all miss her spirit.
Betty Hauwiller lived as she was raised — in service to others, with faith, and with love. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
