

Betty Murray, age 90, passed away Sept 12th in Hospice care. She is survived and loved dearly by 3 children: Lynn (Rick) Durbin, John (Ann) Murray, Jim (Michelle) Murray. She was blessed with 10 grandchildren: Luke, Jenna, Ricky, Vince, Nicole, Gus, Nick, Rhett, Jake and Max. She welcomed 23 great grandbabies to the family and was waiting for two more.
She is predeceased by her husband of 46 years, Jim Murray, parents Harry E Putnam and Margaret McLean Putnam, two sisters Ann Putnam Wilder and Janet Putnam Hunsecker, in-laws Millard M Murray and Jennie Shelpmann Murray.
Betty was born and raised in her beloved Virginia. She strolled the shore daily. She roller skated most evenings as a teen. There she met Jim in 1954 who was stationed at nearby Fort Eustis on a blind date. They fell madly in love and married two months later. After a baseball stint in Texas they moved to Southwest Ohio. They raised three kids in Xenia and Riverside.
In time, Betty evolved into an artist painting splashy watercolors and thick, impasto, vibrant oils. She was a member of Dayton Society of Painters and Sculptors, Ohio Watercolor Society and won numerous awards for her works. She made many friends in the art community. She painted seascapes, gardens and florals most. Betty loved nature and animals, gardening, thunderstorms, and the wind in her hair. She cared deeply for many pets in her long life. She enjoyed bridge her entire adult life with friends. She was a history buff and read extensively. Most of all, she cherished her family. She was a good Mom. She loved Jesus and is with Him now in Paradise.
Graveside services will be held at Valley View Memorial Gardens Sept 17th at 11am followed by lunch at her home.
