Betty Jane Phillips died at home on Sunday, December 2. She was born December 1, 1931 in Harriman, TN. Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, James. Since her husband’s death, in 2000, she managed and cared for her home taking great pride in her well-manicured lawn and carefully placed flowers. She was an impeccable housekeeper and the only person her family knew who regularly cleaned and dusted the engine in her 2000 Blazer. She is survived by three sons: Larry (Faye) of Beavercreek, Ronald (Diana) of Centerville, and Dennis (Claudia) of Centerville. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Jennifer Phillips, Emily Phillips, Ronald Phillips, Julie Harless, Jamie Johnson, Jessica Phillips and eleven great grandchildren: Jackson, Ella, Seth, Blaine, Olivia, Anna, Eli, Emmry, Ayden, Lila, and Quinn. The family expresses its gratitude to the staff of Hospice of Dayton, Nurse Jackie and Nurse Dana. A very special thank you to the HomeInstead staff and to Betty’s primary caregiver, Sandra Hilty, who cared for Betty with compassion and grace for nearly two years. A private funeral was held at Tobias Funeral Home, Far Hill’s Chapel, with interment at Miami Valley Memory Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
