Woody, Bill J., 94, of Riverside, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, July 12, 2021. He is preceded in death by his step-sons Hargis Proffitt, James Lay; sisters Nell Bentley, Bennie Jo Lotts, Marilyn Lotts; brothers David Woody, Guy Woody, and Harmon Woody. Survived by his very good friend Geraldine Keith; sons Daniel (Deborah) Woody, Willard (Teri) Woody; step-sons Ray (Barbara) Lester and Victor Proffitt; daughters Lois Bowers, Brenda Woody, and Jamie (Alan) Kittle; brothers Audley Woody, Jack Woody, John Woody; sisters Mary VanTine, Nancy Cyzick, and Linda Kaupilla.
He was self-employed as a Master Carpenter, was a maintenance man at The Widow’s Home; where he took great pride in his advocating and achieving placement of a flagpole and flag to adorn the grounds. He was a World War II Veteran serving in the Merchant Marines. He was a member of the VFW Post 657 on Spinning Rd, Amvets Post 61, American Legion Post 675. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge (Blue Lodge) Beavervalley 753; the Carpenters Union #104.
Bill was a former Riverside Mayoral Candidate, a former President of the Riverside PTO, and a former volunteer firefighter. He was a big Ohio State Buckeyes Fan, and extremely loyal supporter and advocate for all political endeavors undertaken by Governor Mike DeWine. He was an avid supporter of the Riverside Historical Society, Right-to-Life, Youth For Christ, Buckeye State Sheriff’s Association, the Smithsonian, and numerous others.
A public visitation will be held on Thursday, July 15, 2021 at Tobias Funeral Home – Beavercreek Chapel, 3970 Dayton Xenia Rd. Beavercreek, OH 45432 from 12:30-1:30PM on Thursday, July 15, 2021 with a service to follow at 1:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton.
