Bonnie Jacqueline Grulick, age 95, of Beavercreek, passed away peacefully at Hospice on December 6, 2022. Known by Jackie to everyone who loved her. Jackie was a loving and devoted wife, mother, mama, great-grandmother and so much more
Jackie was born in Parkersburg, West Virginia to parents Leroy and Naomi Potter. She lived in various places around Ohio till her family settled in Dayton when Jackie was a child. Jackie married her high school sweetheart, Bussie, and together they shared 74 years.
She was a wonderful mother and grandmother who filled her home with laughter and love. Her grandchildren called her mama because she told them she was too young to be called grandma. She was an avid part of the neighborhood and became the house that all the kids gathered to play and have a good time. She was considered ‘mom’ to more than just her children and a blessing to all. She was a woman who had many talents and wore different hats throughout her life. She worked at different businesses from Top Value to Winters Bank and for many years as a switch-board operator at Kettering Hospital. She also volunteered her time for many different programs. From humanitarian efforts after the Xenia tornado to serving as a poll worker year after year. She loved animals and supported the care of homeless animals through her donations to SICSA. She even volunteered her time to a disabled child who needed constant motion pattern therapy. She had great friendships with many neighbors for over 60 years and her close friends created a card club that was enjoyed for many more.
Jackie had an eloquent way with words and her skills as a wordsmith were passed down to both her daughters who have the same gift. She made sure that each morning her crossword puzzle was solved and that each evening she participated in being Jeopardy champion from the comfort of her living room.
We all have our favorite stories and memories of Jackie. When someone who was so loved and special passes, we find comfort in the memories we share and the stories that are told. She always wanted to be surrounded by family, which is where she felt the most comfortable and loved. Anyone who ever went to visit was met with a smile and her undivided attention, and when you left there were lots of hugs and kisses. Her kitchen table became the essential gathering space. This is where Saturday morning breakfast became a weekly event where there was an abundance of food and where world problems were solved. She always made holidays special for her children and grandchildren. Christmas was made magical by Jackie and the time, effort and love she put into it was felt by all.
She will be missed beyond measure by all her family, friends and those who loved her. She leaves behind her husband Bussie Grulick, her children Steve (Linda) Grulick, Sharon Honnert, Sandra Shroyer, grandchildren Stephanie (Daniel) Fitzgerald, Jared (Angela) Shroyer, Jameson (Meghann) Shroyer, Jesse Honnert, Andrew (Amanda) Honnert, Jon (Paige) Shroyer, and Christopher Grulick (Kylie Abrahamson). Great Grandchildren Annelise Grulick, Moss Shroyer, and Roman Grulick. There are numerous other family and many friends that she treated as family.
Her final weeks were in the care of Hospice of Dayton. The family would like to thank the amazing nurses and staff of Hospice for not only taking care of Jackie but supporting her husband and children.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to Hospice of Dayton.
