Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Vivian, Sr. and Hulda Marie “Benson” Twining; a sister, Marie Catherine Webster;a brother, Leonard Eugene Twining and a great-grandaughter Kristen Twining. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ethelyn “Lyn” Twining of West Carrollton; three children, Sidney Paul (Betsy) Twining of Quinton, VA, Kenneth Brian (Brenda) Twining of Parsonsburg, MD, and Nancy Jean (Scott) Wheeler of West Carrollton; a brother, Paul Vivian Twining, Jr. of Princess Anne, MD; 15 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.Carl was born February 5, 1926 on a farm in Maryland, where he worked with his father and older brother until he graduated from high school. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps and served in Italy as a Bomber Tail Gunner. After the war, he attended the University of Maryland, where he earned a master’s degree in agricultural economics and met his wife, Lyn. He then worked for the US government in Washington D.C. at the Department of Agriculture, and the International Trade Commission.
After they retired, Carl and Lyn lived in Maryland, Australia, Florida, Arkansas and Ohio. Together they enjoyed classical music, gardening, and woodworking and have made much of their own furniture.Funeral Services will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, July 29, 2014, at the TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME-FAR HILLS CHAPEL, 5471 Far Hills Ave. at Rahn Rd, in Dayton, Ohio, Bishop Kevin Priddy of the Miamisburg Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints officiating. Interment in Dayton National Cemetery, where a military tribute will be presented at 1 pm.
