

Carol Genevieve (Fennig) Harning, passed to her rest after a short illness Thursday afternoon, February 27, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was born on October 4, 1931 in Dayton, Ohio, the daughter of the late Walter R. Fennig and E. Christine Fennig. She grew up in the east end of Dayton and graduated from Stivers High School in 1949. She started her first job at McCrory's in her sophomore year of high school and worked there until she was 18. Her dad helped her get a job at NCR. She worked for office service, setting type and running duplicating machines. During lunch hours she worked in the executive dining room and served the executives lunch until 1955.
She met Henry Harning at a square dance on New Year's Eve, 1952. They married February 6, 1954, and were married 62 years. They built a home in Centerville in 1955 where they raised five children: Patrick J. Harning (wife Desi), Jeffery W. Harning (wife Marcia), Cherie C. Thomas (husband Jon), Cynthia M. Mathias (husband Tim), Daniel T. Harning. They were blessed with 13 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren plus a great granddaughter due in April and a great grandson due in July. She started driving a school bus in 1959 after a co-worker of Henry told him that Washington Township was looking for school bus drivers, when he promptly said: "my wife can do that". She drove until 1961, went back after the children were in school and drove for Centerville Schools and then Spring Valley Academy. Carol is also survived by brother, Ralph Fennig; nephews, Gary Fennig (wife Becky), Jim DeDario (wife Judy); niece, Barbara Franz (husband Tom). Carol was preceded in death by her loving husband Henry J. Harning and daughter-in-law, Eunsook Harning.
She enjoyed boating, water-skiing, sewing, crocheting, gardening, helping other, giving Bible studies and enjoying her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of the Centerville Seventh Day Adventist Church. Carol was a loving, faithful wife and mother, she awaits the blessed hope of the resurrection of the dead.
Visitation Thursday evening March 6, 2025, from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM at Tobias Funeral Home, 648 Watervliet Ave., Dayton, OH 45420. A visitation will occur Friday, March 7, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Centerville Seventh Day Adventist Church, 456 W. Spring Valley Pike, Centerville, OH 45458. Pastor Bill Hrovat officiating. Interment Woodland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ohio's Hospice, Spring Valley Academy, or a charity of your choice.
