Age 85 of Centerville, passed away on Monday, June 1, 2026, at Hospice of Butler and Warren Counties (Hospice of Dayton). Carolyn was born in Marietta, Ohio, graduated from Troy High School then went on to earn her associate’s degree in Radiological Technology at Miami Valley Hospital. Her career started at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Dayton, then she moved into the private sector to work for a private radiology group in Oakwood. Carolyn found her most rewarding and purposeful career at Kettering Breast Evaluation Center where she worked 25+ years before retiring.
After the death of her husband, she felt a support group offered by Hospice of Dayton, would help her navigate the difficult and heart-breaking task of life without him. She found comfort, support, guidance, and strength through these support groups that she herself became a support group leader. Being a part of hospice, helping those learn a “new normal,” gave Carolyn a new purpose but most importantly, it gave her many new friendships and the ability to laugh again.
Carolyn is proceeded in death by her husband of 53 years, Donald M. Berton; beloved younger brother and his wife, Bill and Susan Petty; and her parents Robert and Esta Petty. She leaves behind her two daughters, Kelly Berton and Lori Berton-Dox, and her greatly cherished granddaughter, Madison Dox; niece Shannon Kersey and her husband Todd; and nephew, Scott Petty and his wife Erin; as well as her dearest and lifelong friend, Sharon Gregg.
Family will celebrate Carolyn’s life on Friday, July 24, 2026, at Tobias Funeral Home, 5471 Far Hill Ave from 4:30 pm-5:30 pm with family and friends. From 5:30 pm-6:30 pm, Celebrants Pete Kramer (SouthBrook Christian Church) and Tom Myer (Hospice of Dayton) will speak on behalf of the family. Our family would like to thank the nurses and personal care assistants at Tapestry Senior Living in Springboro and the staff at Hospice of Butler and Warren Counties. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Dayton in Carolyn’s name, www.hospiceofdayton.org.
