
GASTINEAU, Charles E. ”Chuck” age 86, passed away peacefully Monday April 22, 2013 at his residence. Chuck was born and raised in Dayton, Ohio to the late Charles and Mary Muriel Gastineau, Sr. He was a United States Army veteran of WWII. Chuck was employed as a Management Analyst for the federal government. He began his career in 1951 with Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and retired in 1987 from D.E.S.C. He was awarded Federal Employee of the Year in 1976. Chuck was also a percussionist and music instructor; he began his career with the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra at the age of 15 and played with them for 35 years. He also played for the Kenley Players’ Summer Theater, the Dayton Ballet and Opera, the Kettering Civic Band, and various other Dayton bands. After his retirement, Chuck presented “Slimy Science” at area grade schools for the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery Exhibits to Go outreach program. Chuck enjoyed traveling, gardening, hiking, the Cincinnati Reds, UD basketball and spending time with his family and grandchildren. You could always spot him at his grandkids’ school and athletic activities because he was their #1 fan. He was known for his wit and humor, a quality that will never be forgotten. He is preceded in death by his son,Todd Gastineau. Chuck is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Dorothy, their children; Tom (Susan)Gastineau, Marcia(Monty)Cox, and Mindy(Ray)Monell, daughter-in-law Cindy (Tim) Klink, grandchildren: Grant and Eirinn; Brittany and Branden; Ryan, Eric, Michael and Allie; Brian, Katie and Ben, six great-grandchildren and a host of relatives. A gathering of friends will be held Monday, April 29, 2013 from 5:00PM to 8:00PM at the TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME-Far Hills Chapel.
