SHACKLEFORD, Claude (Shack) 92, of Kettering. OH passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at Green Oakes Retirement Center. He was born, May 12, 1922 in Harlan, KY. Shack is survived by his wife Betty, two sons: Claude Edward and William Ben (Dub), twin brother Clyde , four grandchildren: Benjamin (deceased), James, Sherri and David. He also has five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by six brothers and seven sisters.
Shack was Kentucky born and bred and attended Hall H.S. in Harlan, KY. He married Betty Sue Hensley, in 1942 and Moved to Ohio in 1948, where he was a resident of Kettering, OH for 55 yrs. Shack was a proud veteran of W.W.II. where he served in the Army Corps of Engineers. He retired from DESC and worked at Mc Donalds as a greeter, for 25 yrs. Shack and Betty worked with the elderly and volunteered at Kettering Memorial Hospital, (6,000 hours ea.). Shack was a deacon at the First Baptist Church of Kettering and a director of the youth department. He was known as the “candy man” by many adoring children and adults. Shack loved his God, country, people, fishing, garage sales, collecting and the U. K. Basketball Team. Shack was a unique man with an unforgettable sense of humor. He was a resident of the wonderful Green Oaks Retirement Center of Xenia. Many thanks to them, family and friends for all the prayers, visits and support. We know Shack now enjoys life with God and the loved ones who went before him. The family will receive friends, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, Tuesday, March 10, 2015, at the Tobias Funeral Home-Far Hills Chapel, 5471 Far Hills Ave. at Rahn Rd. Kettering, OH 45429 followed by a funeral service at 12;00 PM. Entombment, at David’s Cemetery Community Mausoleum.
