

Dan C. Crabtree, age 95 of Centerville, OH, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2025 at Bethany Lutheran Village. He was born in Portsmouth, OH to the late Olive (Schoonover) and Paul Crabtree. He graduated from Portsmouth High School and Missouri Valley College. He resided in Connecticut and Florida for many years before moving closer to his daughter in Centerville. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn (Clark), Doris “Debbie” (Ward), his wife after Carolyn’s passing, and a sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Rob Baggett.
He is survived by his family which includes: Susan (Crabtree) Kavanaugh and her husband John Kavanaugh of Centerville and their children Alan, Matthew, and Kelly Kavanaugh; Scott and Lisa Crabtree and their children, Brian Crabtree and his wife Ali Crabtree, and Lauren (Crabtree) Hull and her husband Dan Hull; Sharon Ward and her children Heather Riebeling and her wife Kae Fury, Dawn (Riebeling) Stevenson and her husband Mike Stevenson, Jan (Ward) Waterhouse (Richard Waterhouse, deceased). Dan also had five great grandchildren: Lily Crabtree, Charlotte and Maddie Hull, Connor and Shane Stevenson.
While growing up in Portsmouth, Dan was an Eagle Scout, worked many summers at Camp OYO and remained active in scouting for many years with his son Scott. He was a proud US Army veteran of the Korean War. He retired after a long career with General Electric as Director of Corporate Communications. Dan had many talents and interests, including traveling, playing the organ, painting, and making wood bird carvings. Dan cherished his family and was a man of strong faith. Dan was well-liked and known for his gentle nature, humility, patience and kindness. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed.
The family would like to extend its deep gratitude to the entire care team and staff at Bethany for the kind and compassionate care they provide to Dan throughout his eight years at Bethany.
