Derl Collins Jr., ”Turtle” age 41 of Dayton, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 27, 2014 at Soin Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his mother, Roberta Klansek. He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Sherry Collins. His father, Derl Collins Sr., also survives him, as do three children: Martina, Alissa and Jayme Collins, all of Dayton, and three special children he helped to raise; Brian Asberry Jr., Kelly Lairson and Chelsea Ashbrook. Two brothers also survive him: Matthew Collins and Joseph Price, as do numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Derl was known as the “gentle giant” because of his gentle mannerisms, love of life and ready willingness to help others. He was employed at A.S.P. M. in Vandalia. The family will receive friends at Spaulding Road Church of God on Tuesday afternoon, July 1 from 4 PM until 5 PM. Funeral services will be held at 5 PM on Tuesday with Pastor Larry Thomas officiating. Interment will be held privately at the family’s request. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family of Derl Collins Jr.
