Don was born on September 24, 1937 in Dayton to the late Robert and Ludwina Schamel.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, wife Peggy Schamel, of 65 years, and their son, Don Jr., brothers Dr Robert (Barb) Schamel, Gene (Barb) Schamel and his sister, Shirley (Howard) Kramer. He is also survived by in laws, John and Margie Clark and Barbara Ehler and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Don was a devoted husband, grandfather and great grandfather leaving behind his two daughters Lorie (John) Henderson and Cathy (Mike) Crotty, four grandchildren, Joe (Christina) Martin, Jennifer (Dewayne) Martin, Sean (Molly) Crotty and Danielle Crotty, eight great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.
Don was a 1955 graduate of Chaminade Julienne High School and attended the University of Dayton. Don retired after 28 years as a Maufacture Rep for Anderson Windows. He was an avid sports fan, and had a deep love for golfing and traveling with his wife. Don always had time to tell you "just one more joke" and a good story.
The family would like to sincerely thank the wonderful staff at St. Leonard's and Hospice of Dayton for their love and Care over the last four months.
Visitation will be Tuesday, October 4, 2022 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, 3033 Far HIlls Ave., Dayton, OH 45429. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated immediately following visitation beginning at 12:00 pm
