

MILLER, Doris “Dee”, age 80 of Centerville, passed away Sunday, June 3, 2012 at The Hospice of Dayton. Born to Swedish immigrants, Eric and Helga (Carlson) Eyton in Salem, Ohio on February 24, 1932. She was preceded in death by her parents; youngest daughter, Terri Noll and a brother-in-law, Richard Miller. She is survived by her husband 59 years, Bob; daughter, Shawn (Robert) Phelps; granddaughters, Jennifer and Karen (Simon) Prior; and great grandsons, Kevin and Ben. She was valedictorian of her high school class in 1949, attended Denison University for 2 years majoring in pre-med. She followed her plan and transferred to Western Reserve Hospital in Cleveland and entered their 12 month program to become a Medical Technologist. She worked as a Med-Tech at Trumbell Memorial Hospital in Warren OH. Dee met her future husband at Denison in 1950 and they married in 1953, and moved to Akron where she was employed at St. Thomas Hospital until they were transfered to Columbus, where Shawn was born. Then transferred to Harrisburg PA in 1955 and last to Dayton in 1963. Dee was busy with her two daughters lives since then, such as Bluebird Leader, Brownie Aide and an Aide at Watts Middle School. She also volunteered at Kettering Hospital in patient care and their “Safety Kids” program. She was president of Centerville Coeds Drill Team Parents Club in’74 & ’75, a member of the Camp Hill PA Junior League and Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority at Denison University. Dee was also an accomplished seamstress and loved hand work, especially counted cross stitch. She was adept at Bridge, Cribbage and Penny Ante Poker with neighbors. The word “Sweet” was often used to describe her and her million dollar smile will not soon be forgotten. Memorial service 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 9, 2012 at David’s United Church of Christ, 170 W. David Rd., Kettering OH 45429.
