

ADAMS, Dorothy (Dottie), born Dorothy V. Ripple in Altoona PA, 11/29/1921. Married to Marion Herbert Adams in 1944. Dottie moved to the Dayton area as a child and remained a life-long resident. A graduate of Stivers High School, she enrolled in nurse training at St. Elizabeth Hospital during WWII, but resigned to care for her father after he was injured in an industrial accident. She was working as a Customer Service Representative at DP&L when she met and married Marion “Herb” Adams after a whirlwind wartime courtship. They were a devoted couple until his death in 1988. From the mid-1960’s through the 1970’s, Dottie was a dedicated Teacher Aide in the Beavercreek Public School System, primarily at Valley Elementary School, where she provided one-on-one instruction to students until they attained the skills needed to rejoin their classes at grade level. After she retired, Dottie was an avid swimmer who spent almost every weekday morning at the Beavercreek YMCA. She is survived by her children: Gloria (Adams) Gibney, a chef/caterer in Norfolk, VA; Diane (Adams) Blake, a university professor in New Orleans, LA; and Richard “Rick” Adams, a lineman at DP&L. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren - Ethan Gibney, Jeremiah Williams, Robert Blake and Liza Blake and by 3 great-grandchildren - Simeon, Damien and Malachi Blake. Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Friday, July 29, 2016 at the Tobias Funeral Home – Beavercreek Chapel, 3970 Dayton-Xenia Rd. at Grange Hall Rd. with interment to follow at Mt Zion Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12 pm until the time of services on July 29. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
