Douglas Matthew Krein passed away on July 26, 2026, at the age of 53. Born in Dayton, Ohio on August 24, 1972, Doug grew up in Kettering and graduated from Fairmont High School. Doug attended Wright State University where he earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in chemistry and earned a Ph.D. in chemistry from The Ohio State University. Doug was most recently employed as a Research Chemist by Core4ce, a national security partner to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.
Doug was known for his generosity and thoughtfulness. His knowledge of chemistry made Doug excel at anything he tried to create. He enjoyed cooking and sharing food with family, friends, and co-workers. He was a beekeeper and loved to give away the honey he made to others. His kindness was also showered on the fortunate cats he adopted over the years.
He leaves behind his beloved mother Marguerite Krein, his brother Joseph Krein, sister-in-law Joan Krein, three God children, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his father, William Krein, and grandparents. Family and friends are invited to gather on Monday, August 24th, 2026, for a service at Ascension Catholic Church at 2025 Woodman Dr. in Kettering, Ohio. Visiting hours will be from 12:00 – 1:00pm; a mass will begin at 1:00pm; followed by a light meal and refreshments.
